The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) hosts a number of student competitions and awards. This year we offer three ways students can showcase their work on a road safety topic, and earn cash prizes and free registration. The Student Paper competition requires that students produce their paper on any road safety topic using a strict list of requirements. Here are the benefits of submitting to this option:

This Special Award competition requires that students produce their paper on a topic related to vehicle safety enhancement. Here are the benefits of submitting to this option:

The Student Poster Competition requires that students complete an abstract outlining the content of their poster. Abstracts accepted are invited to attend the conference, and the posters are judged at that time. The benefits of this option are as follows:
This year, Western Ergonomics is sponsoring a Student Travel Award ($250-$400) to offer support for travel and accommodations for students attending the ITE Canada/CARSP 2023 Joint Conference. Submissions will open on May 1, 2023. The deadline for submission is May 8, 2023, one week after the finalists of the Student Competitions are announced. All students wishing to attend the conference are eligible for this program. However, preference will be given to presenters and those with financial need. Recipients of the Student Travel Award will be announced on May 15, 2023, via email. Awards will be dispersed after the conference.

$3,000 for students in a doctorate-level program
John Vardon Memorial Transportation Scholarship
$3,000 for students in a master’s-level program
ITE Canada Undergraduate Scholarship
$3,000 for an undergraduate student in planning, geography, or engineering
ITE Canada/WATT Consulting Group “Transportation in a Sustainable World” Student Award
$1,000 awarded based on the quality of writing and demonstrated appreciation of interdisciplinary collaboration in a 1,000+ word paper. Sponsored by WATT Consulting Group.
Student Paper Competition
$1,500 for students in accredited transportation programs, awarded based on the quality of a paper addressing a transportation engineering subject. Sponsored by Stantec.
Canadian Capacity Guide (CCG) Competition
An undergraduate student competition based on the Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections (CCG). Cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $300 for second, $100 for third. Sponsored by Jim Gough, PTV Group & BA Group.
Student Presentation Competition
Participate in your local ITE Canada section competition, and you could be chosen to attend and/or present at the ITE Canada Annual Conference.
While the entire ITE Canada/CARSP 2023 Joint Conference is welcoming to students, there will be some events where you are the focus!

This annual Jeopardy-style competition pits teams from ITE Canada Student Chapters across the country against each other for the title of Canadian champion. Teams from ITE Canada Student Chapters receive travel support to participate in the Traffic Bowl. Learn more at here. Registration will open in early 2023. Contact the student chapter at your institution to learn more and join their team.

This casual evening event offers an opportunity to mix and mingle with industry members. Food and drink will be provided.
